Festival @rt outsiders 2004

Maison Européenne de la Photographie
15 september - 3 october 2004

Artists, censorship and creative freedom on the net

For five years the @rt Outsiders Festival has been focusing on the relationship between contemporary art and new technologies; this year it forms part of the "Nuit Blanche" festival.
In this edition, Henry Chapier and Jean-Luc Soret throw new light on artworks that have been doomed to obscurity.
To offer artists faced with censorship maximum visibility, the Festival takes centre stage with a symbolic work by Marcel-Li Antunez Roca in the Vitrine (the streetside display window) at the MEP.

Résistance - Tantale

an interactive multimedia installation
by Marcel.li Antunez Roca

At the forefront of the struggle for artistic freedom, this piece takes the form of a visual and interactive dialogue. The faces of visitors are captured in real time, absorbed into the work and integrated into a baroque, fantasmagorical visual environment projected inside the exhibition space. The computer-processed images put their subjects in dangerous fictional situations, involving them in a series of tableaux that are parables of all the various forms of censorship. Like the mythical figure of Tantalus, the viewer/actor endlessly repeats the same actions, never achieving his or her goal.

@rt outsiders festival will also co-producing 3 performances by Marcel. Li Antunez Roca on 21, 22 and 23 september at Villette Emergence #2.
